Solana Integrates ChatGPT to Guide Users Around the Blockchain

Solana fuses with ChatGPT to become the first Layer 1 blockchain to adopt AI innovations.

The Solana Foundation has launched a ChatGPT plugin developed by Solana Labs into its network to help users navigate the blockchain and get answers to Solana network-related questions. According to the Solana Foundation, this makes Solana the first Layer 1 blockchain to adopt the popular AI to serve crypto users.

Although Solana made the official announcement on May 23, 2023, Solana Labs had hinted in April that it was building the plugin. The new plugin revolves around users getting a grip on the Solana blockchain, allowing them to engage the Solana network directly from OpenAI's ChatGPT. According to Solana, the plugin is now available for forking via its GitHub repository.

In its extended use case, "users will be able to check wallet balances, transfer tokens, and even purchase NFTs using the plugin." While it won't mint an NFT outright, Solana's ChatGPT plugin can recommend the type and number of NFTs the Sol in a user's wallet can buy.

Solana's co-founder and CEO of Solana Labs, Anatoly Yakovenko, in an interview, says, "The plugin just gives you a text interface, like a text-based block explorer. You can describe an object on-chain and it will respond by telling you that it is an NFT account or something like that. So that's kind of cool but it won't yet mint an NFT set. What I want it to do is be able to write to the chain but we're not there yet."

To further show its full backing of AI innovations, the Solana Foundation also says it has extended its grant program from the initial $1 million to $10 million in funding to include support for AI innovations on the Solana network. "Every dev building consumer-oriented apps should be thinking about how their app is going to be interacted with through an AI model because this is a new paradigm for telling computers what to do," Anatoly Yakovenko says in his interview.

The Solana network has always boasted of a faster and more scalable network than Ethereum, which many consider its closest rival. Besides this claim, users of Solana, a proof-of-stake network, agree that it can withstand heavy network tussles and offer lower gas fees even if the network seems congested.
